Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)

Sunday Someday was formed by a very busy group of side-musicians and singer-songwriters who threw a jam band together to play Sunday brunch gigs at Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge in Nashville.

It all started when Megan Palmer and Jason Quicksall held their ‘wedding weekend’ at the honky tonk. The 5 hour jam that transpired actually inspired venue owner Amy Dee to invite Palmer to play a regular brunch gig. ‘As long as it’s a 3pm start’ was the reply and the gig - and the band - was born.

The simple joy of playing music was rediscovered by this group. They played monthly and often asked special guests to play and sit in with them, covering artists such as Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Fleetwood Mac, Mississippi John Hurt, also dipping into the original songs they had all been writing over the years. It was a Sunday kind of thing.

Fast forward to March 3rd when a tornado trounced Nashville and most venues were shut down. Well, that same week a pandemic was declared, and all gigs were off. Hence the name ‘Sunday Someday’ - the band will play again one Sunday, someday, we hope.

At the last show the band had played in February, Anne McCue suggested the song  ‘Give Me Love’ by George Harrison as a potential cover. They pulled it off and it was a transcendent moment - definitely one they would revisit at the next Sunday meet-up. Little did they know that that Sunday was someday far away… in fact it would be a virtual meeting.

A couple months into the quarantine with Dee’s still closed, McCue suggested they start working on the song. She sent out a basic track with guitar and vocals and everyone passed it around a few times, adding parts and harmonies until they decided one day it was finished. McCue then compiled video footage and pulled it all together and here they give you their version of George Harrison’s Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth).

‘This beautiful song is of this time,’ says McCue. ‘It’s exactly what we all need right now.’
